One of my favorite songs from the classic 1968 animated The Jungle Book is “The Bare Necessities” that Baloo sings to Mowgli. I have fond memories of it as a child. It was something my dad sang to me when I was a kid. When he passed, I inherited the collection of Baloo figurines and stuffed animals that I had given to him over the years. The Jungle Book and that goofy Baloo/Mowgli relationship specifically from the original animated classic have always held a special place in my heart because of that relationship with my dad.
In every home, there are bare necessities. One could say that food, water, shelter and clothing and really the bare necessities of life. In our family, love and nurturing those bonds between us and our children, the way Baloo did with Mowgli, are really the bare necessities, the foundation of our family. Sharing our love of Disney movies is another way we connect. I’ve been collecting Disney movies since the days of VHS. My kids now want to collect them all, too. Every time they see a new one come out, they ask to buy it, just like the new The Jungle Book live-action movie, now available on DVD/Blu-ray as of last week. The instant they saw it in the store they wanted to know if we could have a copy for family movie nights.
We love the new live-action version just as much as the classic animated one, for different reasons. Read our review. Grab a copy today. Disney’s The Jungle Book live-action movie, now available on DVD/Blu-ray.
