The first day back to school can be stressful for kids and parents. For some of us, it can be a relief to have them back at school. For others, it’s a tearful occasion. I love my children dearly, but I’m definitely looking forward to the first day of school. To celebrate, I used to just head to work for the day, and it was a day like any other. This year, I’ll be having coffee and brunch on the first day back and then lunch later that week with friends to celebrate back to school.
How do you celebrate the first day back to school? Do you do something special? Here are what a few of my readers do.
Heather B. Party like its 1999!!
Eileen C.: Make sure they are safely on the bus, then go home and relax. That is to ready you for catching up on all you haven’t been able to do when they are home.
Carol H.: I always considered the first day back to school as the true Mother’s Day, and my friend (also the mother of five) and I would celebrate by going out to breakfast.
Melissa V.: I buy them a present that they get when they get home from school. I also do that for the last day as well.
Tia M. Special Ice Cream Day: after school they get to pick any ice cream they want from cones to banana spits. They always looked forward to that in the park.
Amy B.: I drink wine.
Molly B.: I cook them breakfast, pancakes (home made), then we cut up bananas on top and sometimes peanut butter.

I can’t wait to get home from work to hear all about it!
The first day of school is exciting! We celebrate by shoving the kids ONTO the bus and then drinking some wine. 😉 Just kidding, I don’t drink. But you get the idea!
