We’re all familiar with the phrase “work/life balance.” It often seems like the “balance” part is hard to achieve. Family, self, career—the lines are often blurred. It’s so important to take time for yourself. You know that saying, “Happy wife, happy life?” For me, it’s just “Happy Self.” If I’m not happy with myself, no one is happy. Not me, not my kids, not my husband, not my clients, not my friends. I need to take time for me.
At the core of work/life balance is taking care of ME. One of the ways I love to recharge is to get away. Sometimes that’s a night away by myself, either on a work trip or just a relaxing night out with friends. This past weekend I went away with just one of my four kids and we had a girls’ weekend at a resort. We had a chance to bond and relax and recharge. It was nice to be able to have a Happy to be ME day at the spa and enjoy the relaxation time away from the everyday chaos of life. I don’t often get to spend time with just one of my children, so it was extra special for her, too.
March 16th is International ME Day, but you can take a ME Day any time! A ME Day is a day for yourself—you do what relaxes you and allows you to embrace yourself and your achieveMEnts. It’s time off to let your body and mind refresh itself. It’s important to practice self-appreciation and take care of ourselves if we want to be able to take care of others. Even before becoming a parent, I recognized the importance of making sure that I took care of myself. Created by domain.me, ME Day promotes the values of diversity, tolerance and freedom, as well as self-appreciation and importance of taking care of ourselves. If we don’t care for ourselves first, it makes it hard for us to take care of others. Moms don’t get to take sick days very easily, so it’s extra important for us to take care of ourselves.
