Kauzbots Robot Toys for Charities

It’s rare these days that you find a product you can feel truly good about buying, especially toys. Kauzbots are a series of toy robots that give to charitable causes—and that’s a toy I can get behind.

Kauzbots Robot Toys for Charities

Kauzbots was founded in 2008 by a group of friends in California as a passion project and looked to a group of passionate marketers to help take the brand to a new level. Kauzbots offers a donation to charity with each purchase, giving back one robot at a time.

Currently Kauzbots has 10 handmade and hand-stitched 19-inch tall robots for sale through their website and selected retailers. Each bot has a heart for a specific “kauz,” advocating for and donating 10% of sales to separate charities that relate to each bot:

  • KALVIN: a heart for homeless children
  • KALE: a heart for the planet
  • KAPRICE: a heart for women with breast cancer
  • KARISSA: a heart or our environment
  • KARSON: a heart for music therapy at children’s hospitals
  • KARTHY: a heart for autism
  • KHLOE: a heart for oral pediatric health
  • KIEFER: a heart for refugees
  • KOURAGE: a heart for children with cancer
  • KRUZ: a heart for clean water

I had the chance to interview Natasha Nelson, president of Kauzbots. Natasha Nelson discovered Kauzbots when she was given KALVIN by a friend to her to give to her stepson, who was then 9 years old. Nelson’s stepson immediately responded to not only the cute and fun robot toy but to KALVIN’s cause. When he discovered the heart tucked in his back pocket and learned the story of how KALVIN’s passion was to help the homeless, he loved his bot even more.

He is now the proud owner of four BOTS and is trying to decide which BOT and Kauze he wants to support next. Nelson is a successful entrepreneur and partner of Kauzbots. Nelson was raised from a child to help others in need. Her heart has always been with pre-teen and teenage girls and would like to eventually help build or fund an orphanage in Thailand. Nelson traveled to Haiti just days after the devastating earthquake in 2010 with a team of medical professionals who set up medical clinics who helped thousands of patients over a few weeks. Always the PR professional, Nelson did live news updates back to the U.S. on the conditions in Haiti and the need for the support of the local people. Nelson’s goals are to do all she can to alleviate short-term human suffering while working with others to find sustainable solutions for the future. To that end, she loves working with charities and charitable organizations.

Each bot has a heart when it leaves the factory.

My daughters can relate to his realization of the heart. They loved discovering the heart in the pocket. What a revelation when they learned deeper of the philanthropic cause of each bot. They love that they can each pick they cause that they want to contribute to. What a great gift for birthday and holidays, knowing that your contribution is meaningful and that a portion of your proceeds goes toward charitable cause.

“I love the Kauzbot brand and so do my kids. We are thrilled to not only be a part of the Kauzbots family, but even more excited to be in a position to help this charitable company grow, ” said Nelson. “As a company driven by the principles of giving 10 percent of every purchase back to our communities, we are also dedicated to providing our customers with an easy and thoughtful experience.”

“Kauzbots are great gift giving and an excellent way for kids to learn philanthropy at an early age,” Nelson said. It helps make kids more aware of what else of what is around them in the world.

KAMO will be their 11th bot and proceeds from that will go toward the Wounded Warrior Project. They’ll be developing more new bots in the next year, too, Nelson said. They’re hoping to add a Special Olympics and Exodus Road bots.
