Thanks to Uncle Ben’s and Niche Network for sponsoring this conversation about cooking with kids. As always, all opinions are my own.

Cooking with Kids and Uncle BensUncle Ben’s is turning the kitchen into the new family room. Healthier futures begin when kids learn how to cook. Uncle Ben‘s is on a mission to get kids to cook through their  program.

Knowing how to fend for yourself in the kitchen is one thing. Starting healthier eating habits at a young age is another. It’s important to teach your children to cook; modeling us cooking in the kitchen is just one of the many ways our children learn skills for successful adulthood. Kids who cook develop healthier eating habits that last a lifetime, and showing them those habits ourselves is a great start.

Cooking with Kids and Uncle Bens

Vegetables, chicken from the freezer, and Uncle Ben’s Ready Rice is a whole meal my youngest can make themselves!

Among other things, cooking teaches basic skills such as math, time, measurements, reading, and science. Cooking also fosters creativity!

Cooking with Kids and Uncle BensMy youngest kids love helping in the kitchen. I remember when my son (my oldest) started helping, too. Now a Boy Scout, he cooks meals on his own without much help, at home and at Scouts. Kids learn reading, math, measurements, and time in order to be able to follow a basic recipe and execute that recipe from start to finish. My youngest, twins, are constantly helping. Whether it’s food prep or measurements for a recipe, they are always asking to help and part of our nightly dinner routine.

It’s amazing how much creativity goes into cooking, too! While I’m constantly creating new recipes for the blog, the kids are also just as creative. Whatever recipe we might be making for dinner, the kids always have a creative input on what we’re having and their contributions are part of the team. They’re constantly looking for new flavors to combine when they are cooking meals, whether they are mixing a new stir-fry or creating pizza toppings.

With Uncle Ben’s Ready Rice, my youngest can basically cook dinner themselves on a busy school night! They prep and cook a vegetable, grab some chicken from the freezer, and Voila! Dinner!
