7 days movie review

7 days still image

What happens on a pre-arranged date that goes a little longer than planned? As in 7 days longer than planned? 7 Days was a favorite at both Sundance Film Festival 2021 and Tribeca Festival 2021.

7 Days (2021) Movie Review

Charming, funny rom-com starring Geraldine Viswanathan and Karan Soni as pre-date by their parents turns even more awkward as the duo is forced to hunker down–together–during the start of COVID.

Nothing like having your traditional parents try to choose your life-long partner in 2020 and you both pretending you are someone you are not.

Entertaining and I’ll watch Geraldine Viswanathan in pretty much anything after this movie. So many moments of the pandemic aspect really hit home. Very relatable content for early- and mid-2021. Will I want to revisit the quarantine aspect a few years from now? Only time will tell. The rom-com aspect will certainly have staying power.

About 7 Days

Set up on a pre-arranged date by their old-fashioned Indian parents, Ravi (Karan Soni) and Rita (Geraldine Viswanathan) seemingly have nothing in common, making for an afternoon that, while pleasant enough, couldn’t be any more awkward. He’s conservative and clearly nervous, while she’s doing her best to politely keep on smiling.

But then the unthinkable happens: As the COVID outbreak intensifies, the shelter-in-place mandate is issued, forcing Ravi to spend the night at Rita’s place. Before long, he sees that she’s not the straight-laced girl she initially pretended to be—for starters, she’s quick to pound a beer for breakfast. As their time stuck together stretches towards a full week, though, Ravi and Rita develop an unlikely bond, and in the face of a heartbreaking turn of events, that bond grows into something stronger.
