Gone Girl Movie ReviewFriday, I had a chance to see “Gone Girl.” I loved the book, and I personally think Gillian Flynn’s writing is flawless. She’s such an incredible storyteller.

First, let’s get the elephant in the room out of the way. When a movie director adds an element of the opportunity to see Ben Affleck’s penis, who doesn’t want to see the movie, even if the rest of it sucks? I mean, I was pretty excited with all the internet buzz surrounding Ben’s penis…rumors of full frontal, etc. I was intrigued, for sure. Jennifer Garner’s interview on Ellen sure made it seem like this penis scene was a big deal. I was disappointed, to say the least. Not with the movie overall, just that scene. I was a quick side penis view! No frontal! And it lasted for barely a second. If you didn’t know to watch for it, you would have completely missed it. I’m not saying Ben isn’t well hung when he isn’t standing at attention, I’m just saying hype was all it was. The view was barely worth mentioning it, unless of course you wanted to know what he looks like naked. Now you do.

But onto the meat of the review. The movie overall was well done. It isn’t too often that I find a movie where I liked the movie as much as the book. Typically, I find that I dislike or even hate the movie. It’s not easy to take a much-loved book and turn it into a film that the book lover will like. I often hate movies that have been made from good books because directors and actors don’t fulfill the expectation of the way I’ve imagined the characters and have played out the book in my head during reading. The casting is wrong, the scenery is wrong. But I felt this did the book justice. It was dark and twisted like the book. I was even happy with the casting, which rarely happens for me. And (SPOILER ALERT) the scene where Amy kills Desi…holy crap. I was blown away. While gory, it was incredibly well done.

If you haven’t read the book and want to, you should before you see the movie. It will make the movie even better. If you want to see a good movie, then go see “Gone Girl.” If you go see “Gone Girl” just to see Ben Affleck’s penis, you’ll be disappointed.

I didn’t read the book but I found the movie to be fabulously dark, creepy, and a twisted story told wonderfully. And yes I too heard the hype…but side view…come on…sad. Oh well it was great. The book is now on my list of to read when time presents itself.
