Kohl’s Cares Spring 2016 Collection

I was ecstatic when I received the opportunity to work with the Kohl’s Care program and share about it. Each item that is a part of this program is no more than $5.00, making it easy for everyone to help the cause and make an addition to their own home library or select a great gift. Kohl’s offers many different items as part of this campaign, and I ended up deciding on the children’s book, A Color Of His Own by Leo Lionni. In this 32-page, hardcover book children learn about the importance of friendship. We follow along with the story of a young chameleon, who has no color of his own. He meets an older and wiser chameleon and that is when the young chameleons true journey begins. He learns more and finds his inner peace, as well as finding his color. The young chameleon teaches children to accept yourself as you are.

Not only is this a classic story but the illustrations are classic. Leo Lionni is a wonderful writer and illustrator and knows how to draw children into the world of reading. Lionni uses clear drawings, colors, and simple writing so children can easily recognize the animals and children who are just learning to read can read with ease.

This book is a great addition to all children’s library, both young and old. It is also a great opportunity to teach children the importance of giving back to the community.
