Things I Find Myself Secretly Wishing For (and it’s Not Even the Holidays)

So call me crazy, but I’ve already started thinking about what I want my husband and children to get me for the holidays. I think there’s something about the start of the school season that get’s me in “planning mode” as I prepare my family and our budget for the upcoming holiday season. While I’ve already started putting away a little extra cash to pay for the kids’ presents this year, I couldn’t help but daydream a little about the things I might want.

Okay, so maybe I’m a bit ahead of the game here, but who can blame a girl for thinking about herself for once. So bare with me a moment here as you might find that you had some of the very same things on your mind as well.

1. A New Designer Handbag

Now I love a practical pocketbook just as good as the next gal, but as I’m searching through ELLE Magazine and I come across this Mulberry Kensington handbag, in my mind I just had to add this to my wishlist. If you’re a mom who often carries everything but the kitchen sink in her bag, you’ll surely understand why this is on my list. Not only is it a stylish bag but the color is neutral and the size is big enough to fit everything I need in it. I can wear it to work, when I’m hanging with the kids, or even on a nice night out with hubby, so it simply made sense.

2. A Day Off

Yup. You heard that right. Not that I don’t simply adore my family and my career, but sometimes a girl simply needs a break. If I could just take a day to myself to do whatever I please, I’d probably hit a spa or a vineyard. Something to be by myself and rejuvenate.

3. Some Jewelry

As the saying goes, “Diamonds are a girl’s best friend.” So while we’re wishing here, why not add a nice piece of jewelry to the list? The other day I was surfing my social media page and I see my friend recently got engaged and the ring was spectacular. It was a solitaire princess cut diamond in a platinum setting. I would certainly love to get a nice anniversary piece one of these days. My husband have passed the 10-year mark, and will soon be rolling onto 15 years, which is perfect for a vow renewal. I’d like something a bit different though, like one of the pink diamond or blue sapphire engagement rings set in black gold. If I’m a bit more realistic with this wish, I would also appreciate a nice handcrafted piece of jewelry from my children or a beautiful bracelet.

4. A New Robe

I have a great robe that I would really hate to part ways with, but I’m not sure how many more spin cycles it’s going to survive through. Seeing as how I’ve had it for a few years I figured maybe it’s time for me to consider a new one. I loved the one from the Bates Motel I saw at Universal Studios Hollywood last week.

5. A Nice Laptop Bag

Last year I purchased myself a new laptop that I use to manage my blog and graphic design business on the go. Now that school is in session, I travel locally for business (as I try to schedule my time around my children’s schedules so I can spend time with them during the summer). A nice laptop bag would certainly come in handy. The one I have just doesn’t cut it some days.

So are any of these ideas on your mind (even just a little bit)? Well, I’m not really the picky type when it comes to gifts from the heart, so whether I get a handmade craft from my children, an amazing upgrade on my wedding set from my husband, or a new robe that I’ll wear every winter for the next several years, I’ll be happy. What I wish for every year is the happiness and good health of my family.
