Using Creativity in the Center of Our Lives

Over the last few years, we all have gained a deeper appreciation for the creative fields. We have depended on the films, music, and art that we can now access right from our homes. In addition, while enjoying the creativity of others, many of us have also started to have creative dreams of our own. These dreams include writing, painting, or baking.

For some of us, these dreams take the form of creating something that stands out and becomes viral on social media while for others this means simply being creative just for the sake of being creative and not feeling like we must show our work to anyone else.

While we all love the idea of being creative sometimes we put ourselves down because we think being creative is for other people. In truth, we all can be and should be creative. So, what are some ways we can center creativity in our lives?

Being Creative at Work

Many of us have found that we have had to be very creative while juggling working from home, and family obligations. Turning kitchen tables into offices and learning to zoom with frequent interruptions by our pets. This has helped many of us think about what other types of creativity we can bring to our work.

For some of us, creativity at work looks like seeking a creative agency in Nashville to help with a creative rebrand of our work. A rebrand can include a new mission statement, a new catchphrase, or even graphic and web design. For others of us, creativity at work looks like finding creative ways to connect with colleagues such as virtual happy hours, dance parties, and cooking classes. No matter what form it takes, companies that have developed skills to encourage creativity tend to do better in the long run.

Using Creativity to Educate

Creativity is also important in education. Education includes formal teaching as well as all the informal ways that we learn. For example, during the past few years, many creative individuals have gone online to share tips on how to paint, draw, bake or write at home. We also have found that groups of our friends have been getting together to learn new skills together and to encourage each other.

Creativity is also being used to highlight health and safety information such as using the character Goofy to give tips about how we can safely stay at home or encouraging everyone to sing happy birthday while washing our hands. We all are finding creative ways to learn new skills and to teach others important information.

Using Creativity in Design

Sometimes we take design for granted and don’t pay it much mind unless it does not work for our needs. Many of us are finding though that with creativity we can “build a better mousetrap.” Sometimes we find creative solutions out of necessity such as developing creative solutions to COVID or revamping streets and sidewalks to better serve our communities.

Sometimes we find creative solutions when we combine ideas such as using public art creation as a way to decrease youth unemployment. Sometimes we even use creativity to highlight social justice issues. Many areas of our lives could be improved with a little creativity so that they could better serve others.

Using Creativity as Self Care

Self-care is a buzzword right now and encompasses a wide range of activities. Many of these activities are based on creativity. Self-care can look like creatively journaling to process our experiences, coloring in coloring books, or even trying our hand at some art therapy.

Other times we might practice self-care simply by redecorating our homes for the different seasons by bringing in colors that make us feel good. Being creative lifts our spirits and makes us smile which is often good for our mental wellbeing.

Creativity is something that we can bring to all areas of our lives including work, education, design, and self-care. We do not have to be world-famous actors or artists to find that creativity is helpful in our lives. Creativity brings to our lives that little bit of extra energy which can help us stay focused and put our dreams into motion.

There really is no limit to the power of creativity to change our lives for the better. Creativity brings a little sunshine even on the darkest days and provides a bit of hope even when things look bleak and dreary.
