6 Hostess Gift Ideas

With the holiday season coming up, you’ve likely already started receiving invites to various shindigs and events. If you’d like to present any of your gracious hostesses with a sweet gift to thank her for her hospitality and opening up her home, peruse this compilation of gift ideas and treat her to a wonderful surprise!

1. Tried and True with a Twist

If you’re looking for a classic gift with a one of a kind spin, try personalized wine bottles for a surprise that will shock your hostess before you even step through the door. Any one of these unique and delightful libations will serve as a unique gift that your hostess surely won’t receive two of. You can choose from a variety of reds and whites, including cabernet sauvignon, merlot, and even sparkling wine. Once you’ve picked the taste you know she’ll love, take a few minutes personalizing the label for a gift she’ll never forget. Designate a particular phrase you’d like to use, inscribe some seasons’ greetings, or upload an image and have it displayed right on the bottle’s label. It’ll definitely be a present she never expected, and she’ll no doubt save the bottle for years to come. Perhaps you’ll even see it used as a repurposed flower vase during next year’s festivities!

2. Homemade Deliciousness

Who can say no to delicious, homemade treats? For an inexpensive but thoughtful hostess gift, spend an afternoon making your favorite recipes. Bring some homemade pudding for the adults at the party to thank your gracious host and hostess. If you’d like to try something other than cookies, whip up zucchini or banana bread that she can take out for an easy but hearty breakfast the morning after the big party.

3. Soaps

If you’ve lost count of exactly how many events you’ve attended at her home over the years, it’s safe to say your friend is a lover of entertaining. That means her bathroom is visited often, and she may find regular toiletry items are depleted quicker than usual. Decorative soaps with delicious scents will help her keep the bathroom stocked for any guests, and designer soaps provide an extra bit of cheer for any holiday. Plus, they’ll help fight any nasty germs that tend to linger in the colder months. Pick a scent that matches the holiday, like cranberry for Thanksgiving or a pine scented-bar for the Christmas season.

4. Ornamentally Savvy

An ornament is an inexpensive and Christmas-appropriate present that can be personalized to fit your hostess’s proclivities, and it’s a classic gift for a reason. You don’t need to select the tired shiny orb, though; why not try something different this year? If your hostess is a transplant from another city, give a nod to her hometown with a map ornament.

5. Seasonal Plant

Help your hostess vamp up her decorations even more by purchasing a holiday-appropriate plant or flower arrangement and repotting it in a themed basket or vase. For the hostess that loves to cook, an herb plant may be more appropriate and appreciated for months to come. A rosemary plant with a pot wrapped in sweet fabric makes for a practical but precious and fragrant gift.

6. Homemade Coasters

Anyone who has thrown a party in the comfort of their own home knows the stress of chasing around errant cups on top of wood surfaces—coasters, please! Help your hostess with an inexpensive and easy to make DIY coaster project. Grab some 4×4-inch coasters from Home Depot or Lowe’s, some small circular adhesive felt stickers, Mod Podge, and prettily patterned scrapbook paper or fabric. Spread a layer of Mod Podge over the top of the tile with a sponge, then lay down the fabric or paper. Use a credit card to smooth out any bubbles or ridges, then apply another top coat. Once dry, apply a layer of polyurethane to seal it. Apply the adhesive stickers to the bottom and you’ve got a personalized present ready to go! Arrange in a stack and tie together with a ribbon for easy wrapping.

Your friend has been sweet enough to open her home to you and other guests to ring in the holiday season. Show her your gratitude and spread a little more cheer by selecting one of these delightful gift ideas and surprising her on the day of the event. She’ll be touched by the thoughtful present, and you’ll no doubt secure yourself an invitation for next year’s shindig.
