Set up for the Car Connection Pro is pretty easy. Make sure you follow every instruction to the letter or it may not work. The activation part took me an extra try. I missed a detail during the first install.
The fact that the Car Connection Pro can track your gas mileage and other features of your car is pretty cool. It’s customizable to your specific vehicle make and model, so the information is specific to your vehicle and your driving habits. I can see when I’ve driven poorly and exactly where my car is located on a map, as well as where my car has bee recently (that could come in really handy once my son starts to drive).
We nearly got into an accident today; my report tells me we used excessive braking (thanks goodness they work). I often accelerate to get up our crazy hill, and the report tells me that, also. It’s cool to see how much estimated gas it cost me to drive from point A to point B. One glitch that I haven’t been able to resolve is changing the time zone. It was set up for Eastern Standard, and despite changing it twice to Pacific, it still registers as Eastern.
When I agreed to review this product, the biggest selling point for me was the fact that the website stated you could remote start your car and unlock/lock from your smartphone using the mobile app as some of the features. The other features are nice, but the remote start was the seller for me. According to the website, “Just upgrade your new purchase with a Car Connection Pro module and you can not only control your Remote Start System from your smartphone but also get convenience & diagnostic tools that improve vehicle and driver performance.” It turns out that apparently those features only work with an additional part to purchase, even if you car already has a remote starter and/or lock/unlock on its key fob. On to the box, there is fine print that you need to purchase additional parts, but that was not clear on the website. Honestly, I would have been pretty pissed if I’d paid for the part and the monthly service fee and THEN found out that the remote start didn’t function with my car. The website was definitely misleading.
