What if you saved a souvenir from every relationship you’ve ever been in? The Broken Hearts Gallery follows the always unique Lucy, a 20-something art gallery assistant living in New York City, who also happens to be an emotional hoarder.
I feel a little attacked by this movie description on IMDB. I never really saved souvenirs from relationships per se, but I love souvenirs that remind of people, places, and things. When I travel, I collect ornaments for our Christmas tree so when I decorate each year, I can reminisce about the trip or experiences with the trip. I think of it as sentimental. My husband, 100%, would call it emotional hoarding.
The opening credits scroll through the streets of New York City with giant collectibles pinpointing locations of hoarded memorabilia of Lucy’s past relationships. This post contains affiliate links.
At the heart of the movie, Lucy is inspired to create a gallery after she is dumped by her latest boyfriend. The gallery, the namesake of the film, is where people can leave trinkets and emotional baggage from past relationships. As word of the gallery spreads, it starts a movement for fresh starts for all the romantics hanging on to pieces of the past, including Lucy.
