I’m still reeling after this “teaser trailer” that was really more of a torment trailer. I’m not disappointed, but damn.
“Part of the journey is the end”
If you need me, I’ll be rocking in a corner until April.
First Look: Avengers 4 Trailer and Poster: Avengers End Game
Here’s my Avengers Endgame Trailer Breakdown for you.
Avengers Endgame Trailer Breakdown
The title Avengers: Endgame
Avengers: Endgame
“Endgame” is a term that’s been mentioned twice in previous Avengers movies.
The first time was in Avengers: Age of Ultron when Captain America and Tony Stark had the exchange when Tony said to Cap, “That up there. That’s the endgame. How were you guys planning on beating that?” Cap replied, “Together.”
The second reference was in Avengers: Infinity War when Tony asked Doctor Strange why he gave up the Time Stone to Thanos. Strange replied, “We’re in the end game now.”
It starts and ends with Tony Stark
It’s only fitting the trailer begins with Tony Stark. He’s not my favorite character. But Phase One of the MCU started with him, so here we are 10 years later. I may have gotten choked up when I saw him start recording that message for Pepper. “It’s always you.”
Very Star Wars-esque in this moment, too. Kylo Ren and the mask of Darth Vader feeling right here.
It’s also a call back to the first Iron Man movie. Stark is marooned in space in the Guardians of the Galaxy’s ship. In the first Iron Man, he was stranded in a similar no-win scenario before when he was a prisoner. He was even wearing a similar shirt.
The Marvel Studios 10-Year Anniversary Logo turns to Dust
You’re killing me smalls. Can we stop with the dusting already?
Farmer Thanos with the damaged Gauntlet still on his arm
Pulled straight out of the comic book panels, complete with a scarecrow made from his armor, Thanos appears in the Avengers End Game teaser trailer as Farmer Thanos.
It also looks like the damaged Infinity Gauntlet is still on his arm.
Dusted Avengers
We cut to a screen with Bruce Banner staring at the monitors with all of the missing Avengers. We see Scott Long, Peter Parker, and Shuri listed as missing. We know there are others but the Avengers 4 teaser trailer only talks about these three.
I had hoped that everyone we didn’t see flittered away to dust was still alive, but maybe she’s in the Quantum realm like Scott?
This also parallels a panel in the Infinity Gauntlet Comic Book where Captain America sits looking at all the missing heroes.
Thor is seen sitting, downtrodden. “We lost, all of us.”
He’s quickly followed by a shot of Nebula touching the uniforms of her missing Guardians of the Galaxy family.
Hawkeye as Ronin
So we kind of get the answer to the question that’s been on everyone’s mind for the last few years—where has Hawkeye been?
Based on the comics, he was with his family. If the movie parallels the comics, they have also disappeared (murdered or turned to dust…we don’t know). What we do know, is that we catch a glimpse of Hawkeye as Ronin, and it looks like he makes that reveal in front of Natasha. WTH.

Stever Rogers looking at Peggy Carter’s photo
My heart breaks just a little at this moment for two reasons. One, because you know Steve is hurting. And two, because it’s never a good sign when Steve pulls out Peggy’s photo at looks at it. It’s a tell-tale sign Steve is about to make a crazy move. And he says as much to Black Widow.
“This is the fight of our lives.”
“This is gonna work Steve.”
“I know it is, because I don’t know what I’m gonna do if it doesn’t.”
My heart broke earlier, too. I mean, Steve cried for Pete’s sake. How many boxes of tissues am I going to need for this movie?
Scott Lang and the Quantum Realm
And then Scott at the front door…OMG. We thought he was stuck in the Quantum Realm??

We see the Avengers logo float back together
Potentially foreshadowing the undoing of what the Thanos’ snap/decimation has done? Or a sneaky play at trying to placate us for just a moment? We see the Avengers logo float back together. Will our team of Avengers reassemble?
