Season 2 of “The Head” returns December 22 to HBO Max and promises to up the ante on intensity and suspense.
Interview with Katharine O’Donnelly and Moe Dunford
Suspense, drama, and a mystery all rolled into one thrilling package, “The Head” had me hooked for Season 1.
I recently had the opportunity to interview Katharine O’Donnelly and Moe Dunford about the upcoming season. No spoilers of course, but Season 2 brings a whole new role for Katharine and Moe joins the season 2 cast just as things heat up.
Moe Dunford shared what his character will be doing this season.
“It was a pleasure, because it’s the element of surprise, and it was well-conceived. So it’s coming in fresh, but Alec Kurtz is in charge of the security of the ship, that mission is set up. And it’s a scientific research station, this time, not in the Antarctic, but on a moving ship, a real-life ship,” Moe shared.
“Now, suppose his job is to make sure that no heads are chopped off, but that’s easier said than done, you know. I was a fan of Season 1, and I watched Season 1 this time last year. And I was really taken with the work that Katharine and John [Lynch] had done. And just to build on the strengths of Season 1, and to work with a whole entirely new cast, but yet be part of this world, which they’re created.”
“It’s full of surprises, just like Season 1, Season 2 pushes push the boat out, but pushes it in ways no one can see coming, so yeah, it’s a joy.”
As Moe mentioned, in this season, the location has changed from frigid Antarctica to a freighter ship. The ship is almost like another character according to Katharine.
Katharine shared that Season One was very sweaty during filming because the cast filmed in their Antarctic clothes in a studio.
“It was just great not to be wearing the Antarctic clothes, in terms of temperature, on the ship. There was some studio work for this one but this ship is just like next-level it’s so daunting. Like it’s a huge beast,” Katharine said. “It informs your performance no matter how much you maybe try and pretend you’re not there because it’s like the smells, the sirens, the movement of the ship, like it’s so present. It feels like another character in the series.”

The principal setting for this second season of THE HEAD is set in an isolated and inaccessible location, this time a huge freighter carrying a scientific mission as it sails the ocean, and where the confrontation between good and evil that already marked the storyline of the first installment of the series will be resuscitated.
