I don’t travel an insane amount for my job, but I do travel. And I enjoy it. Different places, sometimes wild experiences (remember the tear gas?), and often free entertainment.
This time, I’m in Southern California visiting our corporate headquarters. One of my colleagues recommended staying at the Embassy Suites near our offices, so I figured I’d check it out. I needed to pick a hotel somewhere.
One of the reasons this particular hotel is a hotspot for corporate travelers is because of the free cooked-to-order breakfast and the nightly manager’s reception.
While partaking in the manager’s reception this evening (who doesn’t like a little free wine), I heard a variety of conversations, some mundane, some rather entertaining (enter the free entertainment).
Guy 1: What do you do?
Guy 2: I work for [insert name of government contractor].
Guy 1: Who?
Guy 2: [Insert name of government contractor]. We make weapons and stuff.
Really? “Weapons and stuff.” I seriously hope that guy isn’t actually in charge of making “weapons and stuff.”
Mildly entertaining.
FYI, I rate the overall manager’s reception a 4 out of 5. Free wine, beer, and cocktails and snacks for 2 hours, nightly. The only think that would have made it a 5 out of 5 is if they had some better wine. That said, the Salmon Creek Chardonnay is decent. Not amazing, but definitely drinkable. And she sent me home (read: to my hotel suite) with a 12 oz glass of wine. No complaining here.
Cheers.
