Road Trip Hacks
Road trips rock. Last month, I took a 3-week trip with my kids, without my husband. While it was a bit stressful at times, it was also super fun and memorable. We created lots of memories this summer on that road trip driving across New York State. While all travel with a large family is expensive, road trips can be quite spendy. Any road trip hacks and tips that make life easier and less expensive can be life savers, especially if you are the only parent on the road for a 3-week trip!
One Road Trip Hack that we use to save money is to create our own snack bags for less expensive snacking and fewer stops along the way. That particular Road Trip Hack saves time and money. We’re making fewer stops for dining, which saves time and money (and whining, too!). So whether you are heading out for a day trip, weekend trip, or a week or more on the road, the right road trip hacks can be a life saver.
When we make snack bags and snack bins for the road, we try to include a variety of snacks from savory to sweet, and not too messy since we’re eating in the car.
We put together a basket or bin for the backseat so the kids can grab snacks when they are hungry. Sometimes the items are pre-packaged, and sometimes they are things that we can put portions into snack cups or Ziploc bags to make portions easier to serve. I like to grab gum, candy, and mints for me and for the kids. Those can easily be kept in my console area, too.
Here’s a partial list of what we like to include on our road trips, all of which we can stock up on at our local Albertsons:
- Capri Sun Fruit Punch
- QUAKER Chewy Chocolate Chip
- Quaker Popped Mini Rice Snacks Caramel
- ALTOIDS Peppermint Tins
- ORBIT SS Peppermint
- SKITTLES Original Bag
- Golden Oreo Oreo Cookie
- Wheat Thins Original
- SNICKERS Bites
- TWIZZLERS Bites
What types of items do you like to put in your car for road trips? Albertons carries a huge variety of snacks perfect for a snack bag or snack bin Road Trip Hack.
