Sonoma County is one of my favorite places to visit. Home of my favorite wine country in the United States, it’s a beautiful place no matter what time of year you choose to visit. Rodney Strong Vineyards recently hosted me in Sonoma County to give me a preview of what the winners of the 2017 Rodney Strong Master Blender Sweepstakes will receive. This event is wining and dining at its best.
Three winners will be randomly chosen to attend a weekend in Sonoma County (along with a guest) as Rodney Strong Vineyards Master Blenders. The winners will enjoy an exclusive, educational long weekend and unique wine country experience with the Rodney Strong vineyard and winemaking teams.

The weekend will kick-off with exclusive behind-the-scenes vineyard tours with Winegrower Ryan Decker who will bring the winning pairs to vineyards and locations that visitors to Sonoma County rarely get to experience. We had a tour of several vineyard sites including Chalk Hill, Alexander Crown, and Rockaway. These three sites are where some of the grapes are grown for use in some of my favorite wines including Chalk Hill Chardonnay, Alexander Crown Cabernet Sauvignon, Rockaway Cabernet Sauvignon, Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon from Alexander Valley, and Symmetry.

Rodney Strong Winemaker Greg Morthole will lead winners through an in-depth understanding of the winemaking process at Rodney Strong, including the creation of their legendary Symmetry Meritage Red Blend. The trip will wrap-up with the winners having the opportunity to take what they’ve learned throughout the trip and then create their very own Meritage blend. Symmetry is one my absolute favorite Rodney Strong wines. I’ve had the opportunity to do the Rodney Strong blending seminar three times now. It’s educational and always a fun competition between friends if the company is right. Last year, my blend placed second. This year, one of my closest friends won!
Accommodations will be at a four-diamond luxury hotel located in the heart of Healdsburg, just a few miles from the winery. Stunning sunrises and bocce ball court all add to a lovely stay.

And the food. We can’t forget the food. The culinary experience is definitely something to look forward to. Winners will enjoy meals at some of the top restaurants in Sonoma County, as well as ones prepared exclusively for them by Rodney Strong Chef Tara Wachtel using seasonal, locally sourced ingredients. Seriously. Chef Tara is incredible. You’ll never want to go home after eating in Sonoma County.
