As coffee and red wine drinker, I’m always concerned about whether or not my teeth are stained. I have great dental health and plan to keep it that way. In addition to my semi-annual cleanings at the dentist, I also use home teeth whitening products a few of times a year.
Smile Brilliant’s Teeth Whitening Trays are a great solution for professional quality whitening at home. Compared to a few visits to the dentist, you can buy the Teeth Whitening Tray kit, including custom-fitted lab created teeth whitening trays, whitening gel, and desensitizing gel on sale for $109.95 (normally $148.95).
Here’s what you’ll get when you receive your kit in the mail:
- base paste and catalyst paste impression material to make your own custom impressions
- 1 set of impression trays
- 3 syringes of professional whitening gel
- 3 syringes of desensitizing gel
- pre-paid envelope for mailing your impressions to the lab.
- detailed instructional brochure
The first step upon receiving your kit is to create your dental impressions. The directions are very detailed and accurate. Essentially, you mix one container of catalyst paste and one container of base paste until you have a light blue putty material. You press that putty material into the bottom of one of the impression trays.
Once you have the putty in the impression tray, you make your upper impression. Place the tray with putty up over your teeth and hold in place for about 1 minute. You’ll be able to feel the material harden just a smidgen on your gums as it is in place. Gently pull down the tray but pulling straight down (not wiggling). Check to make sure your impression looks “whole” and rinse in cold water. Set aside, and do the same with the second tray to make the lower impression.
Once you have both impressions, you let them sit for a couple of hours to harden and then place them in the pre-paid return envelope. The trays are coded so they correlate with your name and address at the lab.
In just a few short days, the lab will make custom trays from your impressions and mail them back to you in a nice protective case. Then you can start the whitening process.
I haven’t needed the desensitizing gel yet, but some people have sensitive gums. If this is the case or you use the higher concentrate of whitening gel, you will probably want to use it.
I used the standard 22% concentration professional teeth whitening gel. I’ve used it several times now and haven’t had an sensitivity issues, but I sure have had whiter teeth! Even after the first use, I could see a difference.
To use the gel, you apply a small amount to the inside front of the bleaching tray so there is enough that it will cover your teeth once you put the trays in your mouth. The first time I whitened, I left the trays on for about 30 minutes. I’ve left it on for about an hour the next two times. You can work up to 3 hours at a time with the 22% concentration, but I haven’t gotten that far.
