Star Wars Celebration was loaded with content nerds couldn’t wait to get their hands on. We even got our first look at the epic adventures Clone Force 99 will embark on in Star Wars The Bad Batch Season 2.
Star Wars: The Bad Batch Season 2 Trailer Breakdown
The short trailer certainly doesn’t give away too much, but it sure does give us a lot to look forward to with the return of this Clone Wars spin-off and the teases for new allies, combat, explosions, and action sequences. Omega has a helmet, Hunter’s donning a rad scarf, and the team has upgraded suits.
Trandoshan Cid
The trailer opens with the Trandoshan Cid (Rhea Perlman) telling the group they can buy their freedom and get away from this life. Hunter replies that they’re already free. He says that there are others in the galaxy that need their help, especially with the Empire gaining strength every day.
Emperor Palpatine
Emperor Palpatine has been looming in the darkness for the first season but he will make an appearance in Season 2.
As The Bad Batch reckoned with the aftermath of Order 66, which saw the majority of the clone army betray their Jedi generals, instead of falling in line with their mind-controlled bio-chipped comrades, Clone Force 99 opted to escape their Kamino home, abandon the Empire, and go AWOL.
Order 66 was only the beginning of the dark times for this Bad Batch of “enhanced” clones. As the team was forced to live as fugitives, taking on mercenary work to make ends meet, the Bad Batch watched as the Emperor executed the next phase of his plan: replacing the aging clone troopers with a more obedient and reliable volunteer army of Imperial stormtroopers. By the end of Season 1, the Empire had all but destroyed the cloning facility on Kamino, setting the stage for the end of the Clone Era.
“It is time for the new era.”
Emperor Palpatine is heard saying “It is time for the new era” in the new trailer. Omega watches from behind cover as the Emperor rises in a repulsorpod.
A screen showing the final destruction of Tipoca City, the capital of Kamino, is behind the Emperor. Tipoca City sank to the depths of the planet’s raging ocean after an Imperial bombing.
Clone Commandos
The Clone Commandos are back for Season 2, deployed for some nefarious purpose. Mount Tantiss is where we last saw them in Season 1, along with chief Kamoinoan cloning scientist Nala Se.
The Clone Commandos are an elite trooper unit best known from the Star Wars: Republic Commando video game. The deadliest clone troopers, rivaled only by the special operatives of Clone Force 99 themselves, the Clone Commandos now serve the Empire.
Captain Rex
“Let’s get to work,” Rex says. Former Republic officer Captain Rex revealed the truth about the bio-chip inside every clone trooper’s head to Clone Force 99 and showed them a way to remove it. His mission to take down the Empire is far from over.
Crosshair
Elite sniper Crosshair is the only member of Clone Force 99 who fell under the sway of the Order 66 bio-chip, turning on his former squadmates. The Bad Batch members were mutations of the standard strain of clones that made up the Republic army and the rest were unaffected by the bio-chip
Crosshair is back in action in the Season 2 trailer, taking aim at someone.
Commander Cody
“We’ll take all the allies we can get,” says Hunter just as Commander Cody appears on the screen.
Commander Cody, who fought alongside Obi-Wan Kenobi on Utapau in Revenge of the Sith and later betrayed him during Order 66, played an even bigger role as a recurring character in “The Clone Wars.” We don’t know what became of Commander Cody after the Prequel Trilogy, we do know he fell under the sway of the bio-chip as the rest of the clone army.
If the Bad Batch encounters him in Season 2, it’s likely it will be as enemies on the battlefield. Maybe this will pave the way for Clone Force 99 to remove Cody’s chip and convince him to defect from the Empire?
Gungi
We see padawan Jedi wookiee Gungi has survived Order 66. Gungi was first introduced in The Clone Wars. but how will he fit into the Bad Batch’s adventures?
Did we miss anything? Let us know in the comments!
