I love to get my holiday shopping done and out of the way early. That way, I can relax and enjoy the holidays with less stress when they do arrive. Less last-minute shopping means more family time relaxing. I’ve even been known to start my holiday shopping in the summer! As I travel, when I see gifts I know certain people will love, I pick them up and stash them until it’s time to wrap them. Here are 5 reasons why you should start your holiday shopping early.
1. Less Stress
Less stress is better. Period. If you shop early, you have more time to relax as the holidays draw nearer. All the pressure is off long before the holiday season get underway.
2. Save Money
If you shop early, you’ll often find pre-holiday season deals (even on Black Friday and Cyber Monday). You’ll also find better deals if you shop before the holidays get underway because many retailers increase base pricing to keep up with supply and demand.
3. More Family Time
Get all of your work our of the way so you’ll have more time to enjoy the holidays with your family. If you aren’t rushing around at the last minute to finish your shopping, you can be relaxing and enjoying the holidays with the ones who matter most.
4. Avoid the Crowds
Let’s face it…the malls and stores get crowded as the holidays get closer. I avoid going to the mall anyway, and I certainly don’t want to visit it the week before a big holiday. Thanks anyway. I have better things to do with my time.
5. Toy Availability and Selection
The closer you get to the holidays, the less likely you are to find that hot toy your child wants. It’s either sold out, on back order, or they only have pink and your child wants green. No one wants to be those people fighting over the last Cabbage Patch doll circa 1983 to fill their child’s wish list. Shopping early gives you a much better selection.
Get a Head Start On Your Shopping at the Walmart Holiday Toyland
This year, you can get a head start on your holiday shopping with Walmart’s Holiday Toyland events. Attend a store even near you to interact with this year’s hottest toys picks, chosen by kids! When at the store, keep an eye out for Buddy the Elf life-sized cutouts and you too can be an Official Toy Tester. When you test your toys, make sure to snap a picture and share it on social media using the hashtag #chosenbykids. I’ll be at the Holiday Toyland event in Salem, OR, on October 11.
Another way to save money and get ready for the holidays is by taking advantage of Walmart’s Free Layaway Program. Stop by the Customer Service desk to learn more about this and other programs Walmart offers.

I actually don’t like BF, so I totally love shopping before that day. So much less stressful 🙂 Totally agree with shopping early for toys too. Toys ALWAYS sell out.
Oooh yes, avoiding the crowds is KEY for me!
Interesting – I’ll be going to Walmart tomorrow!
I have anxiety. I always have to avoid the crowd and shop at night. If I don’t I will have a breakdown lol
I agree! Today we went to the Walmart Toyland event and no one in the store cared so we got to play with all of the toys and do everything by ourselves! It was so much fun! Definitely start early!
I usually shop online as I dislike the crowded stores and long lines.
I like anything that gives LESS stress. 🙂 I’m not a crowd and long line girl so I like to shop early.
Less stress & avoiding the crowds are great reasons to shop early! The event was a lot of fun. We went last weekend.
Love having shopping done early so I can relax and enjoy the holidays and not stress out!
