Kermit, Fozzie Bear, Miss Piggy, Gonzo, Animal. I like so many of them it’s hard for me to say I have a favorite. I think every Muppet is my favorite. The long-anticipated release of the “Muppets Most Wanted” hits theaters March 21, 2014. I was fortunate enough to see an early press screening of it this past weekend with my three girls (oh, and we sat right next to my girl Carol and her family).
Before you even get into the fun of the Muppets, you’ll enjoy a Disney-PIXAR short film featuring the Monsters University crew. “Party Central” will have you roaring with laughter.
“Muppets Most Wanted” opens as a sequel to the last Muppets movie. This 7th Muppets motion picture features an outstanding cast of including Ricky Gervais and Tina Fey. There isn’t anything I’ve seen Tina Fey do that hasn’t kept me laughing, and this movie is no different. The soundtrack is just as thoughtful and complementary as the original “The Muppet Movie” soundtrack. As an 80s kid, I enjoyed the retro clips for old “The Muppet Show” episodes scattered throughout the film. Everything about this film was good-natured and funny, with many of the components you’d expect to see: Good Cop, Romantic Cop; journalist pay-offs; hole-in-the-wall clubs; dancing; and much more, including cameos from numerous celebrities.
Gervais as the bad guy helps the Muppets take their show on the road across the globe, while he and Constantine work to commit burglaries. One mistaken frog identity and Kermit ends up in the clink in Gulag (Siberia) while Constantine travels as Kermit to Germany, Spain, Ireland, and London.
Tina Fey’s “Big House” number cracked me up. I didn’t realize how well she could sing…and with a Russian accent to boot. Kermit sticks to his directing talents even while in the clink to help the prisoners put on a review. “I Hope I Get It” from A Chorus Line will have a whole new meaning for you after this movie.
My kids and I give the “Muppets Most Wanted” eight thumbs up.
