I drove the 2016 Mazda3 Grand Touring as part of a press loan through Drive Shop USA. All opinions are my own.
The 2016 Mazda3 s Grand Touring is a fun car for everyone. The safety features and interior comfort make this sporty hatchback a fun ride.
2016 Mazda3 s Grand Touring – A Mom’s View
I love a great stick shift, and the 2016 Mazda3 s Grand Touring is the perfect 6-speed manual car for a trip around town or a short road trip.
The 2016 Mazda3 s Grand Touring is a beauty. The exterior is smooth and sleek and does not look like your typical “mom car.” I was amazed at the beauty from the one touch sunroof to the 18-inch alloy wheels. It also had me from the sporty looking front end to the rear spoiler.
After admiring the exterior beauty of the 2016 Mazda3 Grand Touring, I was even more in love with the interior. The front driver’s seat can be adjusted both forward and back, but you can also adjust the height of the seat—a must for someone as short as I am. Add to the list of great features: front driver’s seat lumbar support and multi-temperature heat control. The heated seats are great in cold weather or for traveling long distances. The passenger’s seat also has the front and back leg room adjustment. The interior seating is also leather, that is every mom’s dream. No more scrubbing stains of who knows what out of cloth seats.
There are three seats in the back with their own ventilation ducts. The back seat also has the feature of split folding seats. The split folding seats is a great feature to have, as you can lay down a seat for extra trunk room, and still, have someone sit safely. This is a perfect feature for families or travel.
2016 Mazda3 Grand Touring Performance and Convenience
Now for the fun stuff. I will say this car can go for as tiny as it is. The 2.5L engine with double overhead cams, four inline cylinders, and 16 valves gives this little number 184 horsepower when you reach 5,700 rpm. Also, the 185-foot pounds of torque when you reach 3250 rpm is a bonus.
The 2016 Mazda3 Grand Touring offers a 13.2-gallon fuel tank, giving you 343–462 miles on a tank of fuel, depending on highway or city miles. You can’t argue with 26 city mpg and 35 highway mpg.
The suspension on this car is fabulous. Due to the 4-wheel independent suspension and front and rear stabilizers.
The convenience of the 2016 Mazda 3 s Grand Touring is simply amazing. You will have 1-touch power windows, heated mirrors, hands-free entry, keyless ignition, and cup holders. There is also the universal remote for your fence or garage door openers.
When you get tired of your AM/FM radio, you can switch over to your satellite radio. The satellite radio is free for your first four months; then you can renew it. You can also use the auxiliary port for plugging in your iPod or phone. You will hear all of this on the 9-Bose speakers throughout the car. Perfect to drown out screaming kids.
The navigation is easy to read and use, which is a plus and a must for me. I hate clunky navigation systems that are difficult to, well, navigate. Big, bold labels and obvious markers.
Safety in the 2016 Mazda 3 s Grand Touring
Last but not least, and most importantly, let’s talk about some of my favorite safety features. All the airbags! Dual front side airbags, and front and rear head airbags are included, which is great for such a small vehicle. Not all rides this small have side airbags. The Mazda 3 s Grand Touring also has a blind spot warning avoidance system, and review view camera. There is also child seat anchors, to keep our precious little ones safe.
The heads up display is always a favorite since it make you keep your eyes on the road.
