We all know how much I love Maroon 5 front man Adam Levine. That crooner can steal my heart any day with his incredible vocal talents. But it isn’t just his vocal talents that steal my heart. He’s a wildly talented guitarist, too, and many people have no clue about that. Mad skills. Adam Levine was good pals with Prince and spent many evenings having jam sessions at his house. Levine says he was lucky to call him friend. After Prince passed this week (April 21, 2016), Adam Levine told People,”[I’ll remember] just the great times that we had and just constantly being inspired by how he did things his way [and] never let anybody deter what he wanted to accomplish creatively and musically…As a musician, I can’t tell you how much that’s rubbed off on me.”
Clearly Prince had an effect on Levine. Check out this video from the 2014 Howard Stern 60th Birthday Bash where Levine joined Train to perform “Purple Rain.” I’ve listened to this performance a few times this week, and am always reminded how much Prince rocked and how incredibly talented Levine is. Check out around 3:45 for Levine’s incredible shred of the guitar solo in this iconic Prince song.
