As women get older, it is very common to have personal complaints about the way our faces and eyelids look. There are many reasons why eyelid appearance might change. Some of it has to do with the effects of gravity, which causes sagging. Other effects are the result of age and use—wrinkles usually develop when skin has been well-used (imagine all the blinking you’ve done in your life!) or as it is damaged by sun, wind, or other natural factors. Some people see their eyelids change due to the impact of smoking on skin and circulatory health. Regardless of the cause of the changes in your eyelids, it’s important to understand how eyelid surgery could help you. Here are a few things to consider. - There are Different Kinds of Eyelid Surgery. While the eyelid might be a tiny part of your body, it is incredibly complex. Eyelid surgery is known as There are three subtypes of blepharoplasty: 1) Upper blepharoplasty for sagging skin above the eyes, 2) Lower blepharoplasty for bags and sags beneath the eyes, and 3) Double Eyelid Surgery or “Asian” blepharoplasty. This last procedure creates a crease on the upper eyelid. Some people, especially people of Asian descent, may have what is known as a “Monolid.” Monolids can be created for aesthetic purposes.
- Preparing for Eyelid Surgery Can Greatly Benefit Your Outcome. Your eyelids are a miracle of complexity, including countless tiny muscles, blood vessels, and other nuanced body aspects. These tiny parts can be damaged and fatigued by misuse. If you are preparing for eyelid surgery (or just want to delay the onset of eyelid aging), stop drinking and smoking. Adopt healthy sleep cycles, exercise, and eat healthy foods. These behaviors will give your surgeon the best “canvas” upon which to perform your surgery.
- Eyelid Surgery is Almost Always an Outpatient Procedure. Though it will take weeks or even months for your eyelids to fully heal, the procedure can be completed in just a few hours, sometimes in as little as one! This makes eyelid surgery one of the most convenient plastic surgery operations that can be performed. You can choose to undergo general anesthesia or localized anesthesia. In either case, you’ll want to rest well after the procedure, but at least you won’t have to stay in the facility overnight.
- Eyelid Surgery is Common for Men and Women. Eyelid surgery can make an impressive different in sight and appearance, making it ever more popular for men and women.
Eyelid surgery is one of the most common cosmetic surgeries undergone in the United States. It can have a profound impact on the appearance of aging, as well as make it easier to see. People decide to undergo eyelid surgery for all kinds of reasons. Talk to your doctor or plastic surgeon to see what benefit you could derive from it. If you decide that it’s right for you, go for it!

I absolutely see this in my future, I’m only 36 and my right eyelid is already a bit droopier than the left, I can mostly see it in pictures. It doesn’t bother me too much, but if it gets much worse, well yeah…
I think I’d be too nervous to try this…
