Last week in Los Angeles we had a fun morning of holiday cheer with Freeform’s 25 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS talent, including a special chat with Stephen “tWitch” Boss and Allison Holker, real-life married couple and co-hosts of Freeform’s 25 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS “Pop Up Santa” and “Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings.” We got to talk to them about their shows, their kids, dancing—and then made Christmas tree ornaments with them. Such a fun morning. Read on for some fun facts about this adorable pair, Stephen “tWitch” Boss and Allison Holker.
On Christmas card photos and other holiday traditions
Stephen “tWitch” Boss and Allison Holker shared with us their fun tradition of taking photos with Santa each year for their Christmas cards. Last year, they did the Grinch. Allison said their son Maddox LOVES the Grinch and it was so much fun watching his face light up as the Grinch came to life. This year, they’re being a little more classic, but still fun—tWitch and Allison will be a blow-up gingerbread man and snowman, respectively, and their son and daughter will be Santa and reindeer.
“We wanted to start this tradition because we wanted to do something with our kids, but we actually hope in a few years they WILL be embarrassed and still know that we’re doing them no matter what,” Allison said. “I hope to be doing it when we’re 60 and they have their own kids.”
They have other fun holiday traditions, too, like making their own ugly Christmas sweaters. “The uglier the better,” tWitch said.
On hosting the “Pop Up Santa” Special and “Disney Fairy Tale Weddings”
“There are some very real moments,” tWitch said. “Even though it’s shot for TV, it’s something that brings us back to our wedding day, and watching the grooms watch their brides walk down the aisle, for me, that was an ugly cry moment.”
“For ‘Pop Up Santa’ holiday special this year it was really personal to me,” Allison said. “My brother is actually from an army base out here in California in Ft. Irwin, and when they approached us about doing Pop Up Santa, they told us they would be doing a baby shower for 75 women on an army base, and he said we were going to Ft. Irwin, and I was like, ‘My brother and his family are there and they have 4 kids,’ and it almost brought me to tears because I’ve seen everything they have gone through being in the army and the families and how strong they are. I was so excited to be a part of something that was so personal to me. It was really special to be a part of that.”
“One of the best parts about that though was that they thought they were there being filmed for a military documentary,” tWitch said, So being able to see that switch when they realized it was a celebration for them was emotional.
“It’s really special what we get to do,” Allison said. “It changes you.”
Lin-Manuel Miranda and Martina McBride appear in this winter special, where hosts tWitch and Allison Holker help couples have the wedding of their dreams. Don’t miss Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings: Holiday Magic, Saturday, December 8th on Freeform!
Thanks to Walt Disney Studios for bringing me to Los Angeles on an all-expense paid trip. As always, all opinions are my own.
