Dining at the Keekorok Lodge
The dining hall at the Keekorok Lodge in the Masai Mara Game Reserve is buffet-style with a variety of dishes to choose from. There is also a custom corner when you can have omelets and crepes for breakfast and other dining options for lunch and dinner. The food was quite good. If you like Indian food, they had lots of good curry dishes at lunch and dinner.
While your dining at the Keekorok Lodge is included in your room charge for the night, what they don’t tell you is that coffee and tea are the only beverages included. My first night, I was asked what I’d like to drink by the waiter. I asked for water. He brought me a bottle of water (most water is bottled for the tourists in Kenya) and never said anything about there being a cost. I had my dinner and left. When I returned for breakfast, the waiter approached me and said, “You owe me 300 shillings.” Apparently, that water was a separate charge, but no one ever said as much. I certainly would have finished the bottle or taken it with me had I realized it would cost me $4. I felt it was somewhat shady and sneaky in that they will offer and bring you a beverage, but not disclose there is an additional cost. I would have expected to pay for a beer, but not water. So beware of what you order.
