Monkey Kingdom

Disneynature MONKEY KINGDOM Now Playing! Review and Resources #MonkeyKingdom #AvengersEvent

Last week I was in LA to see in an early screening of Disneynature’s MONKEY KINGDOM, which is now playing in theatres everywhere. I love monkeys, so I was extra excited to see this film. This movie is a great educational resource and fun family movie. Take a journey among the ancient ruins in the jungles of Southeast Asia as Maya, a Toque Macaque monkey, fights for her survival and the survival of her newborn son, Kip.

Maya is clever, resourceful, and full of street smarts—qualities that are necessary for staying alive when things get rough for the group of Castle Rock monkeys she belongs to. The movie—narrated by Tina Fey—lets us explore life with a family of monkeys, a family that has issues, but like most families, sticks together when it counts. From monkeying around, caregiving, drama, “talking to the hand,” and unconditional love, they see it all. You’ll laugh, you may even cry, but you’ll leave the theatre knowing more about monkeys than you did before and excited for the next Disneynature film. Who knew that the fruit at the top of the tree could be so sweet and the seat at the bottom could actually have so many advantages? Life lessons, morals, and family entertainment are all part of what you get when you buy a ticket to see this movie.

I LOVED the Disney nature films they had when I was little. I must admit I have never seen the newer ones, and I’m not sure why. I think Monkey Kingdom may be the perfect one to get me started.
