The day you’ve been waiting for is here. Big Hero 6 opens in theaters and you get to meet Baymax.
Since I saw snippets of the movie and met the directors at Disney Animation Studios this summer on a press trip to LA, I’ve been dying to see Big Hero 6. And today, you can see it too.
Don’t worry, there are no spoilers in this review (not even in the Easter Egg mention at the end). If you love Disney movies, you won’t be disappointed. Baymax is the lovable robotic healthcare-provider-turned-super-hero than you can’t help but love. Baymax will steal your heart instantly, as will his sidekick Hiro. Hiro’s been through a lot at the ripe age of 13. He’s endured more sadness, heartbreak, and loss than most kids that age. Yet he’s got his head on straight and wants to do right by the world. You’ll love him instantly, as well. Baymax is the new favorite in our house. We would have even been a Halloween costume if I’d had time to pull it off. Everyone has a favorite character, and they’re all relatable in their own way.
The movie is great for families. We saw an early screening this week, and although he’s too cool to admit it, I know my 11-year-old liked it as much as my 7-year-olds did. He was glued to the screen the whole movie. They were enthralled and engaged through the entire film. If you have super sensitive little ones, a not of caution: there are a couple of pretty intense scenes…fighting the bad guys is always a little dark and foreboding, and while my kids don’t typically get freaked out, I had two that said they were scared at different points in the movie.
The soundtrack is incredible. We’ve been singing Fall Out Boys “Immortals” since Tuesday night. And Henry Jackman’s soundtrack is one that makes you wish it was the soundtrack to your life.
Big Hero 6 Bonuses
If you love the Disney Animated Shorts, “Feast” is the new one that premieres in front of Big Hero 6. The adorable dog Winston will melt you, especially if you are a dog owner. We got our first fur baby long before we were married and had kids, so Winston’s life is highly symbolic of the cycle of a dog’s life.
And that Disney Easter Egg that we all love so much…stick around for it at the end. Someone fab makes an appearance!
