¡Hola amigos!
Colombia is wonderful, and I kind of want to stay forever. Everyone is very welcoming of this gringa and her lousy Spanish, but I’m trying. Ibagué, the capital of Tolima, is lovely. The “Music Capital of Colombia” is a beautiful old city with beautiful and colorful buildings surrounded by mountainsous landscapes. To the left is the view from where I sit while writing this post. (I took this picture as I went to my hotel terrace so I could include it in this post.
After lunch today, we went to the Plazoleta de los artesano where there are about 15 local artisans selling their goods. It was nice to walk around and see some of the cultural craft items for sale.
One thing I really want to see that I haven’t yet had the chance to see is an old chiva in person. An old rural bus is on my must-see list, but I may have a chance to see one in the Bogota. Apparently they are now used sometimes as party buses. There is this funny one at the hotel where I am staying, which will tide me over until I can see the real thing. The other cool things about my hotel is they use real keys! Yes, a metal key fob with a REAL KEY attached. I haven’t see a hotel with real keys in forever. It actually makes me nostalgic for my childhood when all they used to have were real keys.
