Tuesday was the 2012 Free Cone Day at Ben & Jerry’s scoop shops around the globe. While I had every intention of getting a cone on Free Cone Day, when I saw that the line out of the scoop shop went around the corner, down Cherry Street, and past Rite Aid, I wasn’t about to wait in it. Some things in life are worth the wait*, but ice cream that I can buy anytime is not one of them.
Instead of waiting in a semi-horrendous line, my co-worker pal and I went to a different shop for ice cream. The Lake Champlain Chocolates café had only a couple of people in the store. Since we ditched the free cone day plan, I had to rethink my flavor choice. I wasn’t in the mood for something with a chocolate base (yes, I know I was in the chocolate store).
I spotted Maple Butter Pecan on the menu and decided that was the one, but I was hoping it wasn’t going to be too sweet. It wasn’t too sweet at all; it was a perfect blend of buttery, maple goodness that wasn’t high-fructose corn syrupy sweet, but rather flavorful sweet. (Anyone who has ever had fake maple syrup and prefers the real stuff, knows exactly the flavor I’m talking about.
*such as the launch of the Spicy BLT wrap as a menu addition at Boloco in Burlington today. The menu addition happened to coincide with Free Burrito Day; definitely worth a 30-minute wait since I have been waiting for months for the wrap’s return!
