One of my favorite things about Montreal is Poutine. Not just poutine, but good poutine. I’m always on the hunt for good Poutine locally. You can often get Poutine, but it’s mediocre in most places. My girlfriend had never had it and wanted to try it. She had heard that Leunig’s Bistro served it, so we decided an outdoor lunch on an 85 degree day in April was in order.

Leunig’s menu describes the dish as “French Fries, Maple Brook Cheese Curds, Fried Herbs Topped with Duck Gravy.” While I’m used to seeing Poutine served with beef gravy and have never had herbs on it, it sounded tasty, so we ordered it. It was fantastic. Possibly the best Poutine I’ve tasted. It could have used a touch more cheese and gravy for my liking, but the herbs, including Rosemary, really added a nice flavor to the dish.

I also had the Crab Cake Rissolé (Mango, Avocado & Baby Arugula Salad Served with Sweet Chili Aioli). Also fantastic. I’d highly recommend the food at Leunig’s, but plan on staying awhile. The service was decent, but slow. We had three appetizers/salads and it took us almost an hour and a half to complete our meal (45 minutes from being seated until the Poutine arrived). But if you have the time, the food is definitely worth it.

From Wikipedia: Poutine (/puːˈtiːn/; Quebec French pronunciation: [put͡sɪn]) is a Canadian dish of French fries and fresh cheese curds, covered with brown gravy or sauce. Sometimes additional ingredients are added.
