This summer we lost our dog to cancer. Aside from the fact that we’ve lost a piece of our hearts, we also lost our security system. While our Amerian Staffordshire Terrier shouldn’t be a security system, so many people are uninformed or uneducated about “bully breeds” and they think they are big and scary when in reality they’re big old softies. The new Samsung + ADT Smart Home Security kit doesn’t fill the gap in our hearts, but it replaces the missing security system for our home.

We received the new Samsung + ADT Smart Home Security Starter Kit and 30 days of ADT service to try out and see how we liked this integration in our home.
Once we got the system set up, it’s been pretty cool. I love being able to monitor the action in our home and control the lights with our coming and going.
Peace of Mind
ADT Home Security Starter Kit, from Samsung SmartThings & ADT provides you and your family peace of mind and connectivity customized to your needs. Knowing trusted help is just a few seconds away is a really nice feature.
The connectivity of being Powered by Samsung SmartThings hub is pretty sweet if you dig the SmartHome life. The customizable, DIY security system connects with the rest of your smart home devices to allow for one central control point. Serves as a hub for the rest of your smart home devices. You can control them from the “hub” where you can also keep an eye on your detectors/sensors, although I personally prefer using the app.
Setting up the Samsung + ADT Smart Home Security Starter Kit
Okay, here’s the tricky part. Definitely, let the Geek Squad set it up if you can get an offer for them to do it for free or it’s in your budget. They tell you it’s easy to set up and you can do it yourself, but from experience, it wasn’t so easy—and I say this as someone who is pretty darn tech-savvy, reviews loads of tech (including SmartHome devices), and is married to an electrical engineer.
We do tech and we do it often. I called a friend whose husband works in IT to reach out for help during the install after we had spent HOURS over 2 days. I was delighted to find out he had done the exact same steps we had. I finally went to find one of my old Samsung phones that I wasn’t using and figured I would try that since it wasn’t working in the iOS app, despite being advertised that it should. Low and behold, the Samsung app worked. So it seems there was some kind of a glitch in the latest iOS and the Hub. Not the end of the world, but extremely frustrating, especially when you know what you’re doing for an install.
