Disney+ Shows and MCU Phase 4 Movies Confirmed
We’re so excited to see the news from SDCC 2019. The SDCC Marvel Studios Hall H News is one the most exciting panels for us coming out of SDCC. Here’s the update on what was shared at SDCC from Hall H for the Marvel Phase 4 timeline and schedule for 2020 and 2021!
Marvel Studios announced loads of information about content that will be exclusive to the new Disney+ streaming service (launching November 12) as well as the some of the movies that will be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 4 movies. We have the announcements in order, but among others, we’re SO EXCITED about the fact that Valkyrie will be involved in an LGBTQ storyline as Asgard’s new ruler seeks out a Queen to rule alongside her in Marvel Studios’ THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER. WE ARE HERE FOR THIS.
To kick off the panel, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige announced Marvel Studios’ The Eternals starring Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Lauren Ridloff, Brian Tyree Henry, Salma Hayek, Lia McHugh, and Don Lee and Directed by Chloé Zhao will be in theaters November 6, 2020.
The first show coming to Disney+ was up next. Marvel Studios’ The Falcon and The Winter Soldier has been teased for months, and we now have some more details. Starring Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, and Daniel Brühl, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier streams exclusively on Disney+ Fall 2020.
In the new Disney+ original series The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Sam Wilson (The Falcon) and Bucky Barnes (The Winter Soldier) team up in a series of action-filled adventures as they fight together against evil after the events of Avengers: Endgame. Daniel Brühl will also return as the villain Baron Zemo.
MCU Phase 4 brings in a little more diversity with the Marvel Comics character Shang-Chi coming to the bring screen. Marvel Studios’ Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings starring Simu Liu, Awkwafina, and Tony Leung, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, is in theaters February 12, 2021.
The panel announcements in Hall H at SDCC continued for Marvel Studios with another exclusive Disney+ announcement, this time for another teased show: Marvel Studio’s WandaVision. WandaVision is an original series starring Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, and Teyonah Parris that will stream Spring 2021. Parris will portray the grown-up Monica Rambeau character who was introduced in Marvel Studios’ Captain Marvel.
Continuing with the Disney+ theme, we finally got some more info for the Disney+ Marvel Studios’ Loki series. Our favorite misunderstood villain, Loki, in an original series starring Tom Hiddleston premieres exclusively on Disney+ Spring 2021. (I wouldn’t cry if they changed the logo between now and then, though.)
We’ve also seen this teased for a while now. The WHAT IF…? comics will be adapted for the screen with the new Marvel Studios’ WHAT IF…?series. This legacy comic series will be the first animated series in the MCU and will feature Jeffrey Wright as the voice of The Watcher, as well as many actors from the MCU reprising their roles as voice talent. We should expect to see this on Disney+ Summer 2021.
Who doesn’t want more Hawkeye? Marvel Studios’ Hawkeye starring Jeremy Renner, is an original series that will also introduce Kate Bishop. This new show is set to stream on Disney+ Fall 2021.
Natalie Portman will return for Marvel Studios’ Thor: Love and Thunder, joining stars Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson. As mentioned above, we can’t wait to learn more about Tessa’s love interest as Valkyrie searches for a Queen to be her partner in Asgard. Taika Waititi returns as director for Thor 4 in theaters November 5, 2021.
Maybe we’ll finally learn about Budapest. Even if we don’t, we’ll definitely find out a lot more about Natasha Romanoff’s backstory. Feige shared first clips with what is the first film of the MCU Phase 4. Marvel Studios’ Black Widow movie starring Scarlett Johansson, David Harbour, Florence Pugh, O-T Fagbenle, and Rachel Weisz, directed by Cate Shortland is in theaters May 1, 2020.
