It’s no secret I’m a fan of Disney movies, especially Disney Animation Studios movies. We’ve all been looking forward to Disney’s Moana and you won’t be disappointed. Moana fun fact: Auli’i Cravalho who voices Moana is the same as her character in the movie!
Spoiler-Free Moana Review
The music is everything.
Mark Mancina, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Opetaia Foa’i have crafted an inspirational musical soundtrack encompassing the Polynesian culture and modern musical merriment that will leave moviegoers humming and singing their new favorite Disney tunes. Move over Frozen because this is the new soundtrack kids (and adults) won’t stop singing.
The story is inspirational.
Every culture needs their Moana and every child needs a heroine story. This is that story. Moana is no princess; don’t even call her that (she herself tells her not to call her that), but she is a role model and heroine for girls and boys of all ages.
The easter eggs are worth it.
As with all Disney Animation films, there are numerous Easter Eggs if you hunt. Moana is no different. Watch for Baymax, Sven, Olaf, Flounder, Squirt, Crush, Wreck-It Ralph, McGilla Gorilla, Flash, and many more.
The Polynesian culture is beautiful and the movie is culturally infused.
The colors and wonderment of the Polynesian culture are brought to life on the big screen. This movie has stunning visuals you won’t want to miss. Disney worked with an Oceanic Trust to ensure the authenticity of the movie and share the story of their legends and way finding. The talent involved in the creation of the film were all so excited and proud of the way their culture was represented in the story.
You get a new Disney animated Short Film!
Disney’s newest animated short film Inner Workings opens in front of Moana. You’ll love this newest short is the story of the internal struggle between a man’s pragmatic, logical side and his free-spirited, adventurous half. This unique, fast-paced short blends CG and traditional hand-drawn animation and explores the importance of finding balance in daily life.
