The Wild Robot is an inspiring film about a robot trying to find its purpose in the wild. Stunning animation, an emotional story, and gripping performances make this one of my favorite films of the year.
The Wild Robot Review
Premiering at Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) earlier this month and hitting theatres September 27, The Wild Robot is an emotional journey with beautiful messages for audiences of almost any age. The Wild Robot explores bridging the gap between the natural world and technology through stunning visuals and a heartwarming script delivered through powerful performances by Lupita Nyong’o, Pedro Pascal, and Kit Connor, among others.
There are several key themes and messages we see throughout the film The Wild Robot that are relatable to kids and adults alike.
One of the key themes in the original novel by Peter Brown is the concept that as humans, we are creatures of habit and we don’t like change. However, if we don’t change and adapt we, won’t grow. We see this in the relationship between Roz, Brightbill, and Fink, but also among the other woodland animals.
Another theme carried through the film is the importance of kindness. Kindness is often viewed as a vulnerability, but in The Wild Robot, kindness is seen more as a force and one to be reckoned with. Roz’s journey is one of kindness at all points along the way, in part, because of her design. Her innate kindness grows on and is imparted to others through her sacrifices for not only Brightbill but others.
Acceptance is a huge theme we see in The Wild Robot. Not only acceptance of yourself but also the acceptance of others who may be different than you. Brightbill has to learn to accept himself and his differences but the other geese have to learn to accept Brightbill and his differences.
Verdict
The Wild Robot is a family-friendly film that will win the hearts of all with its brilliant visuals and emotional story. I’d be surprised if this doesn’t become one of your favorite family films of the year.
