Wizard World Comic Con: Portland 2014
Comic Con was always some hypothetical event for me. I didn't grow up near where one took place, and I wasn't a big enough comic book fan to beg my parents to let me go or try to find a way to get to one once I got old enough to go on my own. I used to think Comic Con was just for avid comic book fans and Trekkies and such. I was pleasantly surprised at how much more than that Comic Con is! There's truly something for everyone and every age.
Wizard World Comic Con Overview
Held at 16 major cities throughout the US, the Portland Comic Con is located at the Oregon Convention Center. This 3-day event is packed with cosplay, celebrity brushes, photo and autograph ops, and vendors for everything you could possibly want to get your geek on. I had so much fun! On Saturday, it was rumored that nearly 40,000 people were ticketed and in line to purchase tickets by 11 a.m. Insane. And awesome. And slightly overwhelming. And awesome.
Wizard World Comic Con Highlights
On Saturday, January 25, I made my way through the crowds to spot Norman Reedus, Adam West, Burt Ward, Peter Mayhew, and others. I snapped a few pics. There was a Delorian from Back to the Future available to photograph/sit in. That was cool (I am an 80s kid after all). Cars from the Fast and the Furious franchise were also available. Oh, and the droids that the R2-D2 Builders Club built were wild. It was like I was visiting with the real deal! We met Mike Richardson and got his autograph and photo, too. He was so nice to my son. Mike chatted with him for quite awhile about his favorite comics and video games. Oh, and I got the coolest jacket at the Art of Wings booth! Great hoodie with a whimsical flair.

Wizard World Comic Con with Kids
Sunday, January 26, was Kids Day. I brought my 4 kiddos (3 in costume as Harley Quinn, Cat Woman, and Princess Jasmine). It was the first Comic Con experience for them, too! Sunday was much less chaotic. The kids loved the costumes and all of the comic/character-related merchandise that was available. Sadly, no one had the patience to stand in line with me to get a photo with Adam West and Burt Ward. But we spotted several other celebs: Robert Englund, William Shatner, Aaron Goodwin, Grant Wilson. They even had a costume contest for the kids…most of them came dressed to win!
