Charles Shaw “Two Buck Chuck” Chardonnay ($2.49 at Trader Joe’s in SoCal)
I love a good cheap wine. Some would say that is an oxymoron, but I believe I have found the perfect mix of price and quality here. It’s drinkable, as a porch pounder or with your meal. Some light citrus on the nose and a lot of green apple mixed with a hint of pear. Not complex by any stretch of the imagination, but it has medium acidity. It’s simple and fruty with a touch of buttery oakiness. It’s got a medium body and short finish. Is it a good wine for $10 a bottle? Heck no. But for $3 it’s a steal.
