Packing for a vacation to New York requires some smart tips and tricks if you want to ensure that you look glam. Here are some of the best tips on what and how to pack when you’re getting ready to go to Manhattan.
Make Sure Your Toiletry Game Is Strong
Toiletries are one of the best first things to pack. Many people wait until the last minute to pack toiletries, which usually results in them either packing more or less than what they actually need. Stock up on travel-size products of your favorite luxury brands. This is a great and inexpensive way to treat yourself to the products that you might not usually purchase in their full-size form.
Pack A Smart Makeup Bag
You can’t pack your entire vanity when you set off for New York City. However, you can still pack the things that you need to look your best for any night out on the town. When you’re traveling, palettes and quads are your best friend. They allow you to bring with you plenty of colors to choose from without taking up too much space in your suitcase. Look for a powder or mineral foundation if you want to get around the airlines’ regulations on liquids.
Bring The Right Shoes
You might be tempted to pack nothing but your most stylish heels. However, you’d be wise to remember that New York is very much a walking city. Stilettos sound nice in theory, but they aren’t so great in practice when you have to walk 40 blocks to your destination from your hotel. Instead, look for cute ballet flats and sneakers that can be dressed up or dressed down.
Choose Dresses and Tops That Won’t Wrinkle
You want to look stylish, but you definitely won’t look elegant if your dress is full of wrinkles. Look for light dresses that can be folded without leaving wrinkles or indentations in the fabric. If you do end up with a dress or blouse that gets wrinkled in transit, hang it up in your hotel bathroom and run the water at its hottest temperature. The steam will naturally release some of the wrinkles from the fabric.
Bring Sweaters and Cardigans
New York City weather can be unpredictable, both outdoors and indoors. Some restaurants and theaters will be quite toasty, while others might be cold with a draft. Bring a neutral sweater or cardigan that can work with both formal and casual outfits. This ensures that you’ll stay cozy while also staying chic.
NYC is one of the most fashionable places in the world. Hence, you want to look your absolute best. However, it’s also a pedestrian city, so you want to stay comfortable as well. If you follow these tips, you can stay warm and comfortable without sacrificing style. The only thing left to do is to have an exciting and elegant New York City vacation.
Pack an Umbrella
While you can grab one at a bodega on any street corner, it’s much less expensive to bring one from home. Plus, you can pack a lightweight umbrella that’s very packable. But it’s NYC and you’ll be bound to need an umbrella 1/2 the year.
