the music of cruella

Music is one of my favorite elements of a movie.

Based on the music of CRUELLA's very first teaser trailer, I knew the soundtrack for Disney’s all-new live-action film was going to be on fire. And I wasn't wrong.

The Role of Music in a Movie

Music always plays such an important role in helping to move the narrative forward in a movie and playing to your emotions at just the right moment. I loved how there were a few repeated artists, but never more than two songs by them, and even the covers and newer songs fit the 1970s London punk rock movement.

As a family of 6 with a mix of females, males, teens, and adults, you can be assured that we rarely agree on anything. However, 6 out of 6 agreed that this soundtrack was stupendous.

During our interview with the filmmakers of CRUELLA, Director Craig Gillespie talked about the music of CRUELLA.

The Music of CRUELLA

In addition to the incredible fashion, CRUELLA also brings an intoxicating soundtrack. The music is a mix of both the familiar but also a bit of the unfamiliar with the time period we love. So how did Director Craig Gillespie go about selecting the music?

Director Craig Gillespie: “I actually designed the movie knowing we're going to have music, you have to design shots that give space for music. Very often on the set, I'll be putting in music as I go, as we're shooting (the scenes). That Doors track, when we first met the Baroness, I threw on the day that we were shooting and it never changed. There's a great Nancy Sinatra song, which was kinda spontaneous when we were shooting. So there's always music in my mind as we're going through.”

The Music of CRUELLA in the new Featurette

In the new featurette, CRUELLA stars Emma Stone & Emma Thompson and director Craig Gillespie discuss how music—signature songs from some of the most iconic artists of the period—is integral to the film, enhancing the story and boosting the fun and excitement of the experience.
