Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is not a Mexican Halloween, it’s a familial celebration honoring those who have passed on to the other side. For three full days (Oct. 31–Nov. 2), Mexico becomes engulfed in merriment, tradition, food, and for some—spirits (of the liquid variety). We’ve created a cocktail, especially for this celebration to enjoy at home, the Tequila G Cocktail.
However, this year might look a little different as families keep their celebrations to only their immediate family in order to social distance. To tequileros and mezcaleros, while it’s safe to say they’ll still be indulging in their favorite agave-based spirit, celebrations for the holiday will still be filled with old, and new, traditions.
Thanks to Bribon Tequila for the tequila for our cocktail.
Most Mexican families make “Sus Altares de Muertos” (Day of the Dead altars) at home. This is a yearly tradition, regardless of the situation we are currently going through. Family junction is the main goal while we remember and honor our loved ones with what they liked and enjoyed in life. Being at home, remembering special moments with loved ones who have transcended is the best way to celebrate….
